Where can I travel with your vehicles?
You are free to travel across Canada and the United States. However, it is strictly forbidden to cross the Mexican border. Certain conditions apply. Click here to know more.
Is it possible to bring our pet into your vehicles?
Dogs are welcome. However, an additional fee of $ 150 will be charged for the duration of the rental (We love dogs, but they’re messy!). The maximum is two dogs per vehicle. For any damages, the cost of repairs or replacement will be deducted from the security deposit. Never let your pet alone in your vehicle with all your windows closed. Pets are not immuned to heatstrokes. In a vehicle with all the windows rolled up and all the doors closed, the temperature can rise quickly and prove fatal.
What documents do I need to have with me when renting?
You must have two valid government-issued ID cards with photo. This includes your driver’s license which must be valid for the total duration of the rental. Make sure you have your passport valid if you want to go to the United States. The name on the credit card used for payment must be the same as on the driver’s license.
What are the forms of payment accepted?
We only accept credit card payments for the initial booking that has to be made via our website. If you wish to rent items or buy merchandise once in our office, it will be possible to pay cash, debit or credit via our terminal. The security bond must be held on a valid credit card in the name of one of the tenants registered in the file. For legal reasons, we will be strict about this.
Do we need a special driver’s license to drive your vehicles?
A valid class 5 driver’s license for the duration of the rental is sufficient. The validity of each permit must be approved by the SAAQ before your departure. We will take care of that for you.
How many km are included in my package?
The rental includes 200 km per rental day. For example, 1400km will be included for a 7 day rental.
Can I add km to my rental package?
Absolutely! Click here to see the packages offered. Please note that you must add this package before your departure. Any excess kilometer will be charged at $ 0.30 / km.
Is it possible to add additional days to my initial rental?
Everything will depend on the availability of the vehicle. Please notify us as soon as possible if you wish to use the vehicle for a longer period so we can accomodate you.
At what time should I pick-up my vehicle and return it?
At the time of rental, you will have the opportunity to tell us the time period to which you intend to recover and return your vehicle. We operate 7 days per week.

Does the rental of your vehicles include the necessary to cook?

Where can I park the vehicle to sleep?
We recommend camping in designated campsites, whether it being National/State parks or private campgrounds. More information can be found within our crew of travelers who will be enchanted to give you some tips. Feel free to be creative!
May I cancel my reservation?
Yes, in the event that you are required to cancel a reservation with us, you must send an email to email@example.com. You will receive a confirmation of cancellation.
Cancellation is subject to these conditions:
- 150$ administration fee: Cancellation made 30 days or more before the departure date.
- 50% of the total amount of the reservation: Cancellation made less than 30 days before the date of departure.
- No refund: Cancellation made 7 days or less before departure date.
What happens in the event of an accident ?
In case of an accident, we ask you to think about your safety first.
- All vehicules will have an accident report form in the glove compartment.
- In the event of a serious accident, call 911 for immediate assistance.
- If you need immediate roadside assistance, please call 1 800 363-4869.
- Then, contact us at 514 903-1995 as soon as possible and depending on the situation, we will assist you for the next steps.
What happens if the van breaks down?
Our campervans come with roadside assistance in the event of mechanical issues. Please contact us immediately to inform us of the situation. Our goal is to get you back on the road as soon as possible. However, if your vehicle is unavailable overnight due to being held at a repair shop, you will be refunded for that night’s rental. If possible, we will provide you with a replacement vehicle if one is available. In the unlikely event that the vehicle cannot be fixed or replaced, we will refund the remaining days of the rental agreement and assist you in reaching the nearest destination or to come back to Montreal. Unfortunatly it will not necessarily be possible for us to extend your trip due to future rentals schedule.

How do we pay the tolls?
You must pay the fees at each toll station. If this is not the case, we will charge the amount to your credit card along with a $ 25 administration fee.
Is the van insured?
Basic insurance is included in your rental. We offer other packages to enhance your type of insurance. Click here to find the most suitable package for your needs.
What does the insurance cover?
Insurance coverage will depend of the package you choose. Click here to see all the packages we offer. Note that there is no insurance to protect you from careless driving as stated in our Terms & Conditions.
Does the insurance cover personal effects?
No. VanLife MTL is not responsible for your personal stuff. To protect your belongings, you can opt for travel insurance before you leave or check with your credit card company. Most of them offer this type of insurance at affordable prices.
Can I use my credit card as insurance?
It is up to you to verify if you credit card protects the vehicle and if so, you are free to use your card as insurance on our vehicle. The company issuing the credit card will inform you of the conditions and restrictions of insurance on rental vehicles.
Is it possible to rent extra equipment?
Absolutely! We have many fun and useful articles to enhance your stay. To see the list of items and rental prices, click here. Quantities are limited, so don’t forget to include items you want in you reservation. If you change your mind and want to cancel extra equipment, you have to let us now at least 7 days prior to your departure date, otherwise the amount for the rental of the items will be charged in full.
What happens if I want to add extras once the booking is confirmed?
In case you forget anything during the initial booking, we invite you to contact us as soon as possible. Depending on availability, we will add it to your order.
Do vans have racks for surfboards or bikes?
It’s possible to rent external supports for bicycles. As for your surfs, you can keep them safer inside the van.
Is there Internet access in the vehicles?
All our vehicles are equipped with modems that will allow you to pay as you go for Internet use.
What is the capacity of the fuel tank? What is the fuel consumption of vehicles?
The tank holds about 90 liters of gasoline. Consumption is about 17 liters per 100 km, depending on your driving.
Where can I get clean water tanks?
Water containers are on sale in grocery stores and at some convenience stores and gas stations. You can also fill the containers with running water or ask around for free water source points on your way.
Should I bring sheets or a sleeping bag?
The rental includes for each bed an outline sheet, a flat sheet, pillows and pillowcases. It is possible to rent sleeping bags and warm bedding for the chilly camper.
Should I bring a child seat?
We offer safe child seats for free. To ensure the availability of our seats, please reserve them during the initial order. Our seats are designed for children weighing from 5lbs to 65lbs.
Do the vans have air conditioning and heating?
Our vehicles are equipped with an air conditioning system located at the front of the van. For cold weather, the van is equipped with an efficient heating system. However, it is possible to rent an additional propane heating system.
How does the shower work?
The outdoor shower has a propane water heater. You can use the 80 liter water tank or simply connect it to the nearest water outlet. Be sure to use the shower curtains to prevent water from seeping into the van.
How does the chemical toilet work?
The use of chemical toilets is very simple, this short video will show you how it works. Please note that chemical toilets are extra.
Are the vans equipped with electrical outlets?
Our vehicles are equipped with 120V and USB sockets. Be sure to bring your adapters if needed.
Are the vans supplied with the full tank of gas?
As much as possible, all our vans will be rented containing a full tank of gas. However, if this is not the case, you will have to bring it back with the same level of fuel as at the start. This will clearly be noted on the record before departure.
Do I have to clean the vehicle before returning it?
Vehicles must be returned in the same condition as when they were rented. Rental equipment, as well as chemical toilets, paddles and dishes, must be cleaned by customers. The dirty water tank must be emptied, as well as the fridge and the bins which must also be cleaned. If the van is not returned in a reasonable condition, a cleaning fee of $ 250 will be charged to your credit card.
Are the vehicles automatic or manual?
All vans have an automatic transmission. Our vehicles are easy to maneuver.
How many people are allowed in the vans?
According to our models, you can be 2 to 4 travellers in vehicles. When the vehicle is moving, all passengers must wear their seatbelt.
Is it possible to see the van before renting?
To see our vehicles and their layout, we invite you to visit us at the VanLife MTL service center in LaSalle! It is also possible to schedule a Facetime call for you to visit the vehicles.
Do you have any accomodations for people with reduced mobility?
Unfortunately, our vehicles do not yet have ramps for wheelchairs.
What is the upgrade policy?
We reserve ourselves the right to upgrade or assign to your reservation a similar category of vehicle. No refund will be made in that event.
Where can I pick up or return the vehicle?
All rentals begin and end at our office located at 2716 Lapierre Street in LaSalle.
Is there a minimum rental period?
The minimum rental period is 4 days. We may reconsider this and make an exception for group bookings or special occasions. Please contact us for more information.
Can I leave my personal vehicle at your office during my stay?
Yes, we offer this possibility. However, VanLife MTL can not be held responsible if anything happens to your vehicle parked at our office. We invite you to find an alternative to avoid leaving your vehicle on our grounds.
Can I rent a van with a probatory driver’s license?
